Police ID suspect in homicide

Staff Report

YOUNGSTOWN — There’s an aggravated murder warrant for Kevin L. West, 21, of Youngstown in the Saturday evening death of a South Side resident.

Delbert L. Jones, 22, of 814 W. Indianola Ave., was found face down in a field between his home and 808 Indianola Ave. with several gunshot wounds to his back. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Capt. Kenneth Centorame, chief of detectives, said Jones was in the Belmont Correctional Institution for carrying a concealed weapon and just got out on July 23.

To authorities’ knowledge, West and Jones were acquaintances, but a specific relationship has not been determined.

Centorame said they believe West was driving down the road where Jones was outside and proceeded to stop the car he was driving, then got out and shot Jones.

Centorame said a great deal of time has been spent on this case by detectives, and he wants the public to provide any information about West to police.

Anyone who assists West will be held accountable for their actions, said Centorame.

Jones was the city’s 20th homicide victim of the year.
