OSHP dispatch unit to move to Lisbon post

STAFF REPORT

CANFIELD — The Ohio State Highway Patrol’s Canfield Post is not closing, but its dispatch unit will be relocating.

Canfield’s dispatching unit will move to the Lisbon patrol barracks. One dispatching center in Lisbon will serve both Mahoning and Columbiana counties.

The public won’t notice a difference, said Sgt. Bret Henderson of the Canfield Post. All the calls that would normally come into Canfield will just be transferred to Lisbon. Canfield Post units will still respond to Mahoning County calls and Lisbon units will respond to Columbiana County calls. No employees are losing their jobs in the relocation, but will work out of Lisbon, said Henderson.

The reason for merging is to assure constant dispatching service. If a dispatcher called off work a trooper would have to answer calls, said Henderson.

The merger eliminates the worry of not having a dispatcher on duty and enables troopers to do their jobs, rather than the job of someone else.
