Golfers can compete for fun and prizes

YOUNGSTOWN — Volunteer Services Agency Inc., 5500 Market St., will host its second annual golf outing on Monday at the Squaw Creek Facility of Avalon Golf and Country Club on Belmont Avenue.

The cost for the day will be $125 per golfer, and the fee includes 18 holes of golf, a cart, lunch, goody bags, door prizes and an awards dinner.

Among the WFMJ TV-21 personalities participating during the outing will be meteorologist Mark Monstrola, who will play in a foursome, and news anchor Cindy Matthews, who will test golfers on the ninth hole with trivia. There also will be a putting contest, and golfers will have the opportunity to vie for a two-year lease on a new car on the 18th hole.

The purpose

The tax-deductible event is supported by the country club and the DeBartolo Corp., and all proceeds will benefit programs and projects of VSA. The funds will be used locally to support the efforts of more than 4,000 volunteers who serve nearly 300 locations in the Mahoning Valley. In addition, the funds will also be used to train volunteers to provide homeland security in 18 Ohio counties and to help volunteers provide 80,000 consumers with food and clothing. Also benefiting from the event will be senior volunteers whose sweat equity amounted to more than two million in 2007.

To sponsor a hole, to become a primary sponsor, or to register a team, call VSA at (330) 782-5877 and speak to Jeff Williamson or Virginia Leskanic.
