Young women sought for Appleseed queen
Applications must be submitted by Sept. 6.
LISBON —The 2008 Johnny Appleseed Festival Committee and the Lisbon Chamber of Commerce have announced that applications are available for young women who would like to be considered as this year’s festival queen.
“This year we really tried to make the queen and court experiences as memorable as we could by offering our festival royalty some memorable prizes and incentives,” said Craig Brown, queen event coordinator.
This year’s festival queen will not only receive the traditional crown and sash, but will also be presented with a pair of earrings, handmade by Master Goldsmith Barbara Gillis of Gillis Studios, and a $100 savings bond courtesy of Charter One Bank.
Both queen and court will receive other mementos of their experience. Stitch-A-Long Shop of Calcutta will donate shoulder bags and assistant event coordinator Mary Lee Vandevader will provide sashes. The queen and her court will also attend a special dinner provided by primary event sponsor, the East Liverpool Motor Lodge, in a red limousine.
Applications are available by contacting Brown at (330) 277-9509, or Vandevander at (330) 424-5004.
Applicants are encouraged to submit completed applications to the Lisbon Chamber of Commerce or to Brown and Vandevader by 5 p.m. Sept. 6.
A panel of judges, following brief candidate interviews Sept. 10, will select the queen and two attending court members. The judging panel is East Liverpool Motor Lodge Director Tom Wycoff; Scott Rogers, director of Ohio Valley College of Technology; Cecilia Raggozzino, manager of Charter One’s Salem Branch; and Melissa Padisak, director of marketing and public relations for the Better Business Bureau.
The festival queen and court are required to attend festival events on Sept. 20-21. They will also be asked to serve as official event representatives of several events during the next year including the county fair and Lisbon parades.
