South Side man shot to death near home

YOUNGSTOWN — Police are investigating the homicide of a 22-year-old South Side man who died feet from his house.

Police responded to a call at 6:34 p.m. Saturday of a man shot between 808 and 814 Indianola Ave.

When officers arrived, they found the body of Delbert L. Jones, of 814 Indianola, face down in a field between the two houses, police said.

Jones had numerous gunshot wounds to his back, police said.

There is no description of the person who killed Jones.

Police also haven’t released a motive for the slaying.

Jones is the city’s 20th homicide victim of the year.
