South Range football has made its mark
Fanfare:
As the high school football season approaches, I would like to take a moment to wish another successful season to Coach Dan Yeagley and the South Range Raiders.
Theirs has been one of the most successful programs in the state over the last decade. Vindicator readers have read numerous times that the Raiders have not lost a regular season game in the last three years; however, their losses, as well as their wins define the success of this program.
In three years, their only three losses have been to the Division V state champs in 2005 (Patrick Henry) and to the Division V state runners-up in 2006 and 2007 (Warren JFK and Ursuline), truly quite an accomplishment.
To further understand how impressive their feats are, one needs to refer to the 2000 U.S. Census.
South Range students come from Beaver and Green Townships, mostly rural areas, and according to the 2000 Census, population of both townships combined was 9,916 residents.
This, coupled with the fact that South Range does not have open enrollment, only adds to the impressiveness of their feats.
They generally don’t have a high profile group of potential Division I college athletes, but what they do have is a team of young men with the goal of carrying on the South Range tradition that was set by those who played before them.
They also have a coach who is one of the finest gentlemen I’ve ever had the privilege of knowing. To the players, best of luck men, and keep that Raider tradition going.
