presbytery outreach Visit by the Rev. Sidney Byrd
The Rev. Sidney Byrd, a retired pastor in the Dakota (Native American) Presbytery, will be visiting the Mahoning Valley. Mission team leader in Eastminster Presbytery is the Rev. Robert Offerdahl, supply pastor at Gibson Heights-Second Presbyterian Church, 755 E. Dewey Ave., Youngstown. Events on the visiting minister’s schedule follow.
Today: The Rev. Mr. Bryd will participate as storyteller in the Red Hawk American Indian Cultural Society’s Pow Wow at Willow Ranch, located off U.S. Route 422, east of Youngstown.
Sunday: Preach at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Boardman during worship services at 8:30 and 10:30 a.m. Return to Red Hawk Pow Wow during the day then back to Westminster Presbyterian for the annual corn roast.
Monday: Visit at 7 p.m. at Norton Community Center, near Akron, to meet with people from native communities from Northeast Ohio.
Tuesday: Speak at 9:30 a.m. chapel service at Park Vista Retirement Community in Youngstown. After the service, there will be a social time and questions and answers.
Wednesday: Attend the Penn-Ohio Pastors Prayer Fellowship at 5:30 p.m. then visit with children at vacation Bible school at Wickliffe Presbyterian Church, Austintown.
Thursday: Visit to Copeland Oaks Retirement Community in Sebring.
Aug. 23: Visit to Oak Hill Presbyterian Church in Akron.
Aug. 24: Give a mission report at Oak Hill Presbyterian during worship service. A reception will take place at either Oak Hill or Barberton Presbyterian Church.
Aug. 26: Fifty-minute talks planned at 11:10 a.m., 12:10 and 1:10 at Youngstown State University sponsored by Office of Student Diversity, History Department and Eastminster Presbytery’s Dakota (Native American) Presbytery Outreach. Attend a pot-luck evening meal at Coitsville Presbyterian Church as a “bon voyage” event.
