NOTEBOOK \Scrappers vs. Jammers

All-Star break: The Scrappers’ three-game series with the Jammers is their final series before the New York-Penn League All-Star break. That game will be Tuesday night at the home of the Tri-City ValleyCats in Troy, N.Y. at Joseph L. Bruno Stadium. Game time is 7:15 p.m. The ValleyCats are the Class A short-season affiliate of the Houston Astros.

Losing woes: Since sweeping the State College Spikes at home Aug. 3-4, Mahoning Valley has lost three straight series. After their three-game set with the Jammers, the Scrappers will travel to Batavia, N.Y., to take on the Muckdogs in a two-game set Aug. 21-22.

Previous night’s stars: Thursday night in Mahoning Valley’s 10-3 victory on Oneonta, the Scrappers recorded a season-high four triples. Three Scrappers each collected three hits: Donnie Webb, Jeremie Tice and Cord Phelps.

Promotion: On the Scrappers’ most recent road trip, left-handed pitcher Eric Berger was promoted to the Lake County Captains. Berger was 2-0 with a 2.12 ERA in 34 innings. He allowed 26 hits and 11 runs (eight earned) while striking out 41 batters. He allowed nine walks.

Sunday’s promotion: The Scrappers, in conjunction with Handel’s Ice Cream, are teaming up to raise money for the Joe Kaluza family fund. If you stop by any Handel’s location and pick up a voucher for Mahoning Valley’s series finale against the Jammers Sunday, $2 of each ticket voucher turned in will be donated to the Joe Kaluza family fund.

Jammin’ Jammers: Jamestown sits atop the NY-PL Pinckney Division with a 33-21 record. They are 20-8 at home and 13-13 on the road, having lost 4 in a row. The Jammers are 5-5 in their last 10 games and stand 1 1/2 games ahead of the Batavia Muckdogs (32-23) in the division. The Scrappers are 24-33 overall and 11-16 at home, but are just 3-7 in their last 10 games.
