Scrappers pound out 10-3 victory

ONEONTA, N.Y. — The Mahoning Valley Scrappers pounded out 14 hits, seven of them for extra bases, as they snapped a two-game losing streak with a 10-3 victory over the Oneonta Tigers Thursday night.

The Scrappers (24-32) got 11 of those hits from the first four hitters in the lineup — Donnie Webb, Lonnie Chisenhall and Jeremy Tice all had three hits apiece and Cord Phelps added two triples.

Mahoning Valley took a 2-1 lead into the fifth inning when it exploded for four runs including three RBI doubles by Chisenhall, Tice and Robert Alcombrack.

Starting pitcher Russell Young (4-2) pitched the first five innings to pick up the victory, while Anillns Martinez and Daniel Morales pitched the final four innings, allowing just one hit and no runs.

Webb and Tice also tripled for the Scrappers while Tice also drove in three runs.

The Scrappers return home for a three-game series with the division leading Jamestown Jammers with tonight’s opening game set for a 7:05 start at Eastwood Field.
