CHICAGO — Jim Thome, Paul Konerko, Alexei Ramirez and Juan Uribe hit consecutive homers in the sixth inning to tie a major league record as Chicago completed a three-game sweep. Thome’s two-out, three-run shot was his 25th this season and 532nd of his career. Konerko followed with his 12th homer and Ramirez hit his 11th before Robinson Tejeda came on to pitch. Uribe, homerless in his 107 previous at-bats, greeted him with his fourth of the year. Chicago set a club record with the four straight homers, and it was the sixth time it had occurred in major league history.
Rays 7, Athletics 6, 12 innings
OAKLAND, Calif. — Reliever Brad Ziegler’s record scoreless streak was ended by B.J. Upton, and Carlos Pena homered leading off the 12th to give Tampa Bay the win. Ziegler started his career by not allowing a run in 39 consecutive innings — including the eighth Thursday — to tie a 59-year-old major league record for relievers. Upton hit an RBI double to give the Rays a 5-4 lead in the ninth. Tampa Bay lost closer Troy Percival to a sprained right knee in the ninth.

DETROIT — Edgar Renteria hit a tie-breaking two-run double in Detroit’s five-run eighth inning and the Tigers avoided a four-game sweep.

BOSTON — David Ortiz hit a three-run homer to highlight a nine-run second inning for Boston, which scored 37 runs in a three-game sweep.

Padres 3, Brewers 2
SAN DIEGO — Jake Peavy outpitched Ben Sheets as San Diego snapped Milwaukee’s eight-game winning streak.
Peavy (9-8) allowed one run and four hits in seven innings. Sheets gave up three runs and five hits in 6 2/3 innings.
Astros 7, Giants 4
HOUSTON — Lance Berkman hit a tie-breaking two-run homer in the eighth inning to lead the Astros to their eighth straight win. Houston completed a four-game sweep of the Giants and has won 16 of 20 overall.
Diamondbacks 6, Rockies 2
DENVER — Chris Snyder and Chris Burke hit consecutive homers in a five-run fifth inning, and Dan Haren (13-6) pitched eight sharp innings, giving up one run while striking out nine. He also had two hits and scored a run to win for the sixth time in seven starts.
Cubs 11, Braves 7
ATLANTA — A brief benches-clearing skirmish and only the second cycle in Atlanta history couldn’t stop Chicago from completing its first season sweep. Aramis Ramirez and Alfonso Soriano hit home runs for Cubs, spoiling Mark Kotsay’s cycle.

WASHINGTON — Brian Schneider homered against his former team and Carlos Delgado also went deep to help New York finish a three-game sweep.
Cardinals 3, Marlins 0
MIAMI — Ryan Ludwick hit a two-run homer and a run-scoring double and Todd Wellemeyer pitched three-hit ball into the eighth inning for St. Louis. Wellemeyer (10-4) walked four and struck out three over 7 2/3 innings, his longest outing of the season. He previously had gone seven innings on four occasions.
