SCRAPPERS NOTEBOOK \ From Eastwood Field

Throwin’ strikes: Mahoning Valley starter Eric Berger is averaging more than one strikeout per inning pitched this season. The lefty has struck out 40 batters in 34 innings this season. Berger has only walked eight batters. Monday, Berger struck out five in his three innings of work as the starting pitcher for Mahoning Valley.

Chisenhall injured: Shortstop Lonnie Chisenhall, the Cleveland Indians’ number-one draft pick in 2008, was hit by a pitch on his hand in the first inning and was removed from the game. The extent of the injury was not known after the game.

New addition: Outfielder Tim Fedroff made his Scrappers debut Sunday night. The seventh-round draft pick out of the University of North Carolina went 2-4 with a double.

Dry night: After Sunday’s near-washout, which featured a two-hour rain delay at the start of the game and the last inning played during a downpour, Monday’s game was played under clear blue skies.

Hot and cold: Entering play Monday night, Staten Island was the hottest team in the league with five consecutive victories. Oneonta was the coldest team in the league having lost six in a row.
