Fire closes Poland Avenue for several hours


YOUNGSTOWN — A fire at the former Davis Tire at 1144 Poland Ave. shut down the road and required rotating crews of firefighters all night long to keep tires from reigniting, the fire department said. The street was reopened to traffic around 8 a.m. The fire was called in at 10:30 p.m. Monday. The cause is under investigation. Four vacant and unsecured buildings were full of tires and trash. Two of the storage buildings were a total loss, the fire department said. Firefighters on the scene said the property owner should be cited for the mess, adding it is an eyesore and poses a serious danger to firefighters. Damage was set at $9,000, a total loss.
