‘No’ voters did Jackson-Milton community a disservice
‘No’ voters did Jackson-Milton community a disservice
EDITOR:
After viewing the results of the Aug. 5 special election, I would like to thank the loyal Jackson-Milton School supporters. As for the rest of the voters who “won,” I want to say “shame on you” Shame on you for not giving our new administration a fair chance. Shame on you for not supporting the children of Jackson-Milton Schools as so many people in the past supported you when you were going to school. Shame on you for not even taking the time to get to know the children you are hurting by not renewing a levy that you were already paying.
Shame on you for ruining the value of all the property in this school district. I don’t know a soul who would want to buy a home in a school district that will not pass a levy. But if any of you who defeated this levy do, please send them to see me, because I am more than willing to sell them my house and I will go look for a house where the people are willing to support their children.
I truly care about the children of this district. I know a good portion of these children and know that they are special kids who deserve the chance to receive a quality education. I just wish more people in this district would come to the schools and get to know these children. Get to know what a great group of intelligent and gifted students they could be supporting in a number of ways. They are always welcome to attend the concerts, art festivals, sporting events, educational evenings, or to volunteer to help some of the students who could use some one-on-one help.
Instead, they opt to vote “no” and lower property values while at the same time they are planning on dissolving a school district. They must be forgetting that no matter what the name of the district is they will still be paying property taxes to that district. I’m just not sure which district they think that will be, because no district that I know of wants to accept a group of “no” voters.
You may be celebrating your “victory” today, but in the end we are all losers. So thanks for nothing, and remember, please send those prospective buyers my way. I’m ready to surrender.

This past year I had the opportunity to serve on a jury. It involved a rape case. The prosecutor asked every potential juror one question: does “no” mean “no” when someone asks you to stop something? We all replied “yes.”
I think our school administrators need to understand when it comes to school levies that “no” means “no.” The people are taxed out.
I just paid my real estate tax of $949, of which $568 is going to Austintown schools. In November, Austintown will also have a levy on the ballot. I think all the school systems need to put together all the money that’s used putting school levies on the ballot and use it to fight the unconstitutional way Ohio is taxing people to fund the schools.
In November, will “no” mean “no,” or will we keep trying and hope we can catch the people sleeping next time?
