Radio classes prepare for license exam

STAFF REPORT

YOUNGSTOWN — Mahoning Valley Amateur Radio Association will conduct classes in basic radio theory for people who want to take the ham radio license exam.

The classes will take place on two Saturdays, Oct. 11 and 18. Both classes begin at 1 p.m. at the ITT Technical Institute, 1030 N. Meridian Road.

These classes will help students preparing to take the examination. Students passing the exam will earn an entry-level license from the Federal Communications Commission.

Course review and license exams will be given Oct. 25 for students taking the classes.

The classes are free, but students are required to register in advance and to purchase a study guide (No. 9647) for $17.95 plus shipping and handling from the American Amateur Radio League by calling 1-(888) 277-5289.

This is the same study guide used in the 2006 license classes, so students may be able to borrow a study guide from a former student.

Registration deadline is Aug. 24.

Call Jerry or Bonnie Viele at (330) 534-1394 for information and registration. Please do not call the ITT Technical Institute for information.
