SEATTLE — Willy Aybar and Shawn Riggans, the Nos. 8 and 9 hitters in Tampa Bay’s lineup, both hit three-run homers, and the Rays set a franchise record with their 71st win in a rout of the Mariners.

ANAHEIM, Calif. — Chone Figgins hit an RBI single with one out in the ninth inning against Yankees closer Mariano Rivera, and Los Angeles completed a three-game sweep of New York. Howie Kendrick led off the ninth with a single against Damaso Marte (0-2). After Gary Matthews Jr. struck out, Marte walked Mike Napoli and Figgins grounded Rivera’s first pitch into right field to end it.
White Sox 6, Red Sox 5
CHICAGO — Carlos Quentin hit his American League-leading 32nd homer, Jim Thome and Jermaine Dye connected. Gavin Floyd (12-6) got the win even though he struggled, allowing five runs and seven hits while striking out six and walking one in 51‚Ñ3 innings. He is 7-1 after White Sox losses.
Tigers 6, Athletics 1
DETROIT — Nate Robertson won for the first time in more than six weeks, allowing five hits pitching into the eighth inning to lift Detroit over Oakland. Curtis Granderson homered and Magglio Ordonez drove in two runs for Detroit, which took two of three from the A’s. Oakland has lost 12 of its last 13. Robertson (7-8) allowed a walk and one run, striking out five in 72‚Ñ3 innings to win for the first time since June 21.
Rangers 15, Orioles 7
BALTIMORE — Ian Kinsler broke out of an extended slump with a career-high five hits, including a homer, and Texas emphatically ended its own offensive drought. Held to one run in their previous three games, the Rangers matched their season high with 20 hits.
Royals 5, Twins 4, 12 innings
KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Tony Pena Jr. broke out of a slump at just the right time, driving in Mark Teahen with the winning run for Kansas City. Pena snapped an 0-for-17 drought with a one-out single in the 11th, then followed Teahen’s double with another base hit in the 12th.

Cubs 6, Cardinals 2
CHICAGO — Ryan Dempster won his 13th game and Cardinals starter Chris Carpenter left with another injury. Ronny Cedeno’s double capped a five-run sixth inning for the Cubs.
Diamondbacks 6, Braves 1
PHOENIX — Brandon Webb threw six strong innings for his major league-leading 17th win and also hit a two-run double to lead the Diamondbacks. Chris Snyder homered for the Diamondbacks, who snapped a four-game losing streak to remain in first place in the NL West. Webb (17-4) was effective if not sharp, allowing one run and six hits over six innings with two walks and five strikeouts and throwing 62 of 96 pitches for strikes.
Giants 5, Dodgers 4
SAN FRANCISCO — Aaron Rowand scored from third on Eugenio Velez’s infield single, and the Giants rallied past Los Angeles for the second straight game. Hong-Chih Kuo allowed back-to-back singles to open the ninth, then got pinch-hitter Omar Vizquel to foul out to the catcher. Jose Castillo reached on an error by Los Angeles third baseman Casey Blake to load the bases.
Padres 16, Rockies 7
DENVER — San Diego hit four home runs, Brian Giles and Adrian Gonzalez finished with four hits each and the Padres spoiled Livan Hernandez’s return to the National League. Jody Gerut, Kevin Kouzmanoff and Giles homered in the third, and Luke Carlin added his first major league home run. Justin Hampson (1-1) pitched three innings in relief to get the win.
Brewers 5, Nationals 4, 13 innings
MILWAUKEE — Gabe Kapler homered off the pole in left leading off the 13th inning and the Brewers came back from a late three-run deficit to beat Washington. Kapler’s shot off Luis Ayala (1-8) gave Milwaukee its fifth consecutive victory. Starting for the injured Ryan Braun, he watched intently from near the plate as the ball hit the pole, then quickly jogged around the bases.
Marlins 8, Mets 2
NEW YORK — Josh Johnson stifled the Mets for seven innings, Dan Uggla had two doubles and three RBIs and Florida roughed up Mike Pelfrey to avoid a three-game sweep. Luis Gonzalez and Mike Jacobs each homered in support of Johnson (3-0), who gave up two runs and five hits to follow up six shutout innings in Philadelphia on Tuesday.
Astros 13, Reds 4
CINCINNATI — Michael Bourn homered and drove in a career-high four runs, Lance Berkman and Geoff Blum also went deep and the Astros rolled to their easiest win of the year.
