Power restored in Columbiana County

LISBON – Power has been restored to the part of Columbiana County left without electricity since about 9:30 a.m.

At approximately 11:40 a.m., the power was restored, said Mark Durbin, a spokesman for First Energy.

Portions of Columbiana County, including Lisbon, Leetonia and East Liverpool, were left without power this morning due to downed power lines. Durbin said about 6,300 customers were without power.

Durbin said the outage was caused by workers moving dirt in the Lisbon Cemetery and piling it against a tree. The tree fell due to the weight and landed on two lines, Durbin said.

After the lines had been cleared and power was restored, Lisbon Fire Chief David Lewton exclaimed, “Power’s on!”

Officials in the Columbiana County Courthouse waited to see if the power would be restored by noon before deciding whether to close for the day. County Auditor Nancy Milliken said her office, located on the first floor of the courthouse, had no access to computers. The Title Division and Clerk of Courts were both operating under generator power.
