Prescription drug assistance bus coming

YOUNGSTOWN — The Help Is Here Express bus tour, which helps uninsured and financially struggling Ohioans access information about programs that provide prescription medicines for free or nearly free, will be here at the Youngstown Community Health Center, 726 Wick Ave., from 2 to 3:30 p.m. Wednesday.

The bus tour is part of the Partnership for Prescription Assistance, a nationwide effort sponsored by American pharmaceutical research companies.

Pet first aid

Financial aid awarded

FARRELL/GREENVILLE, Pa. — UPMC Horizon Medical Staff Scholarship Trustees have awarded $12,000 in scholarships to six medical students from Crawford, Lawrence and Mercer Counties.

The recipients are: Danielle L. Gainor of Greenville, a third-year medical student at Drexel University College of Medicine, Philadelphia; Marie A. Hurd of Copley, a second-year medical student at Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine, Erie, Pa.; Jason P. Manross of Saegertown, Pa., a second-year medical student at Drexel University College of Medicine, Philadelphia; Rachel D. Nighswander of Hermitage, Pa., a third-year medical student at Penn State College of Medicine, Hershey, Pa.; Adam D. Rhodes of New Castle, Pa., a second-year medical student at Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine; and Megan N. Wasson of Conneaut, Pa., a third-year medical student at Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine.

Autism walk Sept. 28

CLEVELAND — The second annual Cleveland and Northeast Ohio Autism Speaks’ Walk Now for Autism will take place at 10 a.m. Sept. 28 at Progressive Field, 2401 Ontario St.

Registration is at 8 a.m. Joining the walkers at this year’s event, sponsored by Toys “R” Us, will be honorary chairmen Dennis and Elizabeth Kucinich.

Proceeds benefit the national advocacy organization Autism Speaks.

First aid courses

Zagat survey expands

CINCINNATI — Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield in Ohio has expanded its Zagat Health Survey, an online survey tool that enables consumers to share their experiences regarding physicians with others throughout the state.

The online survey tool allows consumers to review their doctor visits based on trust, communication, availability and office environment.

Ohio doctors honored

COLUMBUS — The Ohio Academy of Family Physicians named its physicians of the year at the group’s annual awards luncheon.

The recipients are Family Physician of the Year, Dr. Deborah S. Plate, Akron; Family Medicine Educator of the Year, Dr. Randall Longenecker, West Liberty; and OAFP Foundation Philanthropist of the Year, Dr. Lisa Righter, Appleton, Wis.
