Happy 100th birthday Vivian C. Lee
Born: Aug. 3, 1908, in Charlotte, N.C. Mrs. Lee came to Youngstown as a child and has lived here most of her life.
Residence: Youngstown’s East Side.
Parents: William J. Cloyd and Mattie Lively Cloyd.
Education: The former Vivian Cloyd attended the Oak Street School, Lincoln Junior High and East High School.
Spouse: Married Nathaniel C. Lee, a Youngstown civil rights leader and former local NAACP president, on Aug. 19, 1939. She is a widow.
Family: Mrs. Lee has a son, Nathaniel Lee Jr., of Canada; four granddaughters, Mary Lynn Byrd, Viviann Potter, Cynthia Lee and Sylvia Cramer; and nine great-grandchildren.
Church memberships: Third Baptist Church, 1177 Park Hill Drive, Youngstown.
Club memberships: The Angie Johnson Missionary Circle, the Altar Guild, and she is a former member of the Women’s Work Committee.
Talents: A pianist, Mrs. Lee accompanied the Dunbar Choral club, of which her husband was the director. She also served for many years as director of the Senior Choir at Third Baptist Church. Over the years, she taught piano to hundreds of young people.
Celebration: Friends and family gathered to honor her at a 100th birthday party Aug. 2 at the church. For her milestone birthday, she also received congratulatory letters from Youngstown Mayor Jay Williams and Sen. Barack Obama of Illinois..
