Roth hangs on after NABF loss


Cleveland’s Matt Kidd pitched a three-hitter against Tri-County.

YOUNGSTOWN — Host team Roth Brothers got bumped into the losers’ bracket, but managed to stay alive in the NABF Major (19-older) Regional Friday.

After falling to the Ohio Titans, Roth beat the Cleveland Winking Lizards.

Tri-County was bounced by Steve’s Sports of Cleveland.

Ohio Titans 5, Roth Bros. 2

Ohio Titans had only three hits, but coupled with four walks, they were timely and did damage to Roth Brothers.

Mike Novak, Mike Janos and Nick Evilsizen had the hits for Titans, which scored three runs in the first inning.

Mike Sikorski had two hits, while Rob Tamburro, Anthony Porter, Cameron Cimino and Josh Conkey had singles for Roth.

Roth 13, Winking Lizards 3

An eight-run fourth inning wiped out a Winking Lizards’ 3-2 lead and gave Roth adequate offense in a five-inning game.

Of Roth’s 10 hits, Jonathan Habuda and Sikorski had two doubles, Tom Clayton had a double and single and Eric Jones had a pair of singles.

Habuda knocked in three runs, while Clayton, Sikorski and Anthony Porter had two RBIs apiece.

Winner John Mang struck out five in four innings.

Ken Rybicki had two hits for Winking Lizards.

Steve’s Sports 13, Tri-County 0

Matt Kidd pitched a three-hitter and struck out eight for Steve’s of Cleveland.

Leading Steve’s 12-hit attack was Etan West, who had a home run, double and single and knocked in three runs. Teammate Ed Ramos’ two singles accounted for three RBIs.

For Tri-County, Rob Sullivan had two singles, while Dan Manoco had one.

Canton 10, St. John’s 4

Ty Moorhead’s three doubles and six RBIs powered Canton Walthers-Mallonns. Greg Ferrell homered for the winners, who overcame a 3-1 deficit in the bottom of the third inning.

Greg Stokes had two singles and two RBIs, while Rick Krist also had two hits for Pittsburgh St. John’s.
