Oles pitches Roth Brothers to 2-0 victory


YOUNGSTOWN — Alex Oles scattered eight hits with four strikeouts in leading Roth Brothers to a 2-0 victory over Toledo All American Coach Thursday in the NABF Major Regional Baseball Tournament at Pemberton-Donnell Park.

Roth Brothers also played Ohio Titans in a later game in the double-elimination event.

Mike Sikorski hit three singles and drove in a run as Roth Brothers scored twice in the top of the sixth inning. In a losing cause, Spencer Hahn threw a four-hitter with seven strikeouts.

John Mang worked an inning, allowing a hit and striking out one in earning a save.

In other games, Warren Mahoning Valley Knights were eliminated after losing to Cuyahoga Berea Blue Sox (8-2) and Youngstown Tri-County (4-3).

Adam Boris of Tri-County hit a home run in the top of the sixth inning to tie the score 3-3.

Rob Sullivan was hit by the pitcher leading off the ninth inning for Tri-County. With two out, singles by Armani Johnson and Ken Biolik scored Sullivan. Mike Carbo hit three singles for Warren.

Tri-County lost to Canton Walthers-Mallonns, 3-0, in a game delayed by rain in the sixth inning.

Tri-County had threatened in the third and sixth innings, leaving two runners stranded on bases. Tyler Pierce threw five innings, allowing seven hits with five strikeouts in a losing effort.

Tri-County takes on Steve Sports this morning at 10 at Oakland Field.

Buffalo Swingers were eliminated by losing to Ohio Titans (15-8) and Toledo (16-3).
