Discovery of bones in Greenville sparks probe

GREENVILLE, Pa. — Unidentified remains were found at the construction site where a new Sheetz gas station is being built.

Greenville Police Chief Dennis Stevens said a construction crew employed by the corporation found the bones early today under the cement basement floor of a home that was demolished for the project.

Stevens said neither he nor the Mercer County Coroner’s office were able to determine whether the bones were those of an animal or a human.

The Sheetz Corp. currently owns the homes that are being torn down for the station project. Workers and police said they do not know who previously owned the properties.

The Mercer County 911 Center said an investigation into the discovery is ongoing, and more detailed information will be released to the public as soon as it is known.
