Naked man in chimney draws two burglary-related charges
staff report
WARREN — The case of a man pulled naked from the chimney of a downtown building has been bound over to the Trumbull County grand jury on two charges stemming from different incidents.
The action was taken Monday against Richard L. Kline, 48, of West Market Street Northwest, after a preliminary hearing before municipal Judge Terry Ivanchak on charges of breaking and entering and attempt to commit a theft offense.
Kline remains in the county jail in lieu of a $10,000 bond.
He is charged with cutting the window screen at a Lodwick Drive apartment when spotted by the renter July 30. He was found by police sitting in the hallway of a nearby apartment building.
The next morning, according to police, he was spotted climbing into the chimney of the Log Cabin, a replica of an early school building in the downtown area.
He told police, they reported, that he was cold and trying to return home.
When pulled by a rope from the chimney, his pants came off and he emerged naked.
