Fire destroys South Side home early today


YOUNGSTOWN — Officials are investigating an early morning fire on the South Side that destroyed a home.

No one was in the home when firefighters responded to the call at 601 Powersdale Ave. at 12:09 a.m. today.

The second floor of the small home was engulfed when firefighters arrived. Firefighters said the damage was $7,000.

The home was demolished, except for the chimneys, which stood too close to electrical wires to be immediately dismantled.

Crews left the scene at 2:55 a.m. Cause for the fire is still unknown and is under investigation.
