Diamondbacks break out against Bucs


PHOENIX (AP) — Mark Reynolds homered and drove in three runs, Chris Young snapped an 0-for-18 skid with three hits and the Arizona Diamondbacks routed the Pittsburgh Pirates 13-7 Monday night.

Reynolds finished 3-for-5 and Stephen Drew, Conor Jackson, Tony Clark and Orlando Hudson each had two hits for the Diamondbacks, who recorded a season-high 18 hits and snapped a two-game losing streak.

Doug Mientkiewicz went 3-for-5 with a homer and Jason Michaels also homered for the Pirates, who have lost four of five.

Arizona starter Dan Haren (12-5) struggled early but lasted six innings to earn the win, allowing four runs and eight hits. He struck out eight without a walk. Haren has not walked a batter in his last 241‚Ñ3 innings, spanning three-plus starts.

Tuesday Haren came to terms with the Diamondbacks on a four-year contract extension.

The new deal runs through 2012, with a club option for 2013.

The Diamondbacks took their first lead of Monday’s game in the fifth when Alex Romero lined a two-run single to right off reliever Jason Davis (1-1), putting Arizona ahead 5-4. Arizona added a single run in the sixth as Drew hit a one-out single, stole second and scored on Jackson’s single to center.

Reynolds led off the seventh with his team-leading 23rd home run to make it 7-5. Arizona added six more runs in the eighth off Tyler Yates and Josh Grabow, the Pirates’ fifth and sixth pitchers to take a 13-5 lead.

Pittsburgh scored two runs on four hits and a walk off Arizona closer Brandon Lyon in the ninth.
