CSEA program allows license reinstatement
staff report
YOUNGSTOWN — Mahoning County parents who are behind on their child support payments can have their driver’s licenses reinstated through Aug. 29 using a program called Deals For Your Wheels.
The Mahoning County Child Support Enforcement Agency, part of the Department of Job and Family Services, allows parents to receive a license-reinstatement form if they make a one-month payment on child support plus $1.
The form, along with a $25 reinstatement fee, can be presented to the Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles for license reinstatement.
Normally, CSEA requires one current payment and two back child support payments or verified employment so that a wage withholding can be implemented, the agency said.
When parents don’t pay child support, the agency can have a parent’s wages attached, tax returns intercepted, driver’s license suspended, liens placed on property or arrest warrants issued, officials say.
To participate in the offer, go to the CSEA offices, 345 Oak Hill Avenue, between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. and ask to speak with a license suspension case manager.
The special offer is being made in August as part of Child Support Awareness Month.
