Agencies get new vehicles through grant

staff report

YOUNGSTOWN — Seven new vehicles, valued at $315,000, have been awarded to area organizations in Mahoning and Trumbull counties through the Eastgate Regional Council of Governments’ Specialized Transportation Program.

STP is a competitive capital grant program that assists the elderly and individuals with disabilities in getting transportation in areas where it is not otherwise available, officials said.

The Federal Transit Administration will provide $250,800, which flows through the Ohio Department of Transportation and is administered by Eastgate here. The grants require a 20 percent match from the grantees.

The agencies, which will receive new vehicles in the summer of 2009, are: Golden String, Antonine Sisters Adult Day Care, SCOPE (Senior Citizens Opportunity for Personal Endeavor), Associated Neighborhood Centers, Hillside Rehabilitation Hospital, Easter Seals and MASCO (Mahoning County Adult Service Co.), which operates sheltered workshops under the auspices of the Mahoning County Board of Mental Retardation and Developmental Disabilities.
