Warren boy wins poster contest
WARREN — John Payiavlas of Lincoln Elementary School in Warren has won the Ohio Federation of the Soil & Water Conservation District conservation poster contest.
Payiavlas won first for the 2nd and 3rd grade competition using oils and pastels. His poster will be sent to the national soil and water conservation district competition being held in February of 2009.
The conservation theme for 2008 was “Water Is Life,” and children from kindergarten through grade 12 from schools throughout the state participated.
Crayons, watercolors, magic markers or other methods of writing, drawing, or coloring were used to create a flat or two-dimensional effect.
The entries were judged on conservation message, visual effectiveness, originality, and appeal.
