NOTEBOOK \ Srappers vs. Spikes

Back for more: Among those in attendance Sunday night was Trisha Goode, the 29-year-old Anderson, Ind., resident who is spending the summer touring minor league ballparks. Goode visited Eastwood Field July 12, but was able to watch just two innings of baseball before rain suspended the game between the Scrappers and Hudson Valley. Sunday, Goode made an encore appearance on her way back to the Hoosier State. “It’s been a great experience. The hospitality I’ve received is something straight out of Mayberry,” Goode said. “I’ve seen it all. I’ve been everywhere from New York City to places that resembled the set of Little House On The Prairie.”

Farm report: Several former Scrappers are enjoying success this summer as they make their way up the minor league ladder. After batting .323 in 49 games at AA Akron, outfielder Trevor Crowe was recently promoted to AAA Buffalo. In eight games with the Bisons, Crowe has already slugged four home runs while batting .308. At Akron, outfielder-first baseman Stephen Head is batting .307. In his last nine games, Head is 11-for-34 with a home run, three RBIs and five runs scored. At Lake County (A), pitcher Josh Judy owns a team-best 10-1 record, while Kelvin De La Cruz is 8-4 with a 1.69 ERA.

Odds ’n ends: Phil Disher (Tri-City) and Miguel Fermin (Jamestown) lead the New York-Penn League with nine home runs, while the Spikes have clubbed just 11 homers as a team. … Scrappers batters have walked a league-high 189 times this season. … State College pitchers own a woeful 5.46 team ERA. … The Brooklyn Cyclones lead the league in attendance, averaging 7,341 fans per home game. At the opposite end of the spectrum is Oneonta, which is averaging just 1,253 fans through 19 home games.

Where’s the beef? Because of what Scrappers officials referred to as “logistical reasons,” the All-You-Can-Eat promotion has been discontinued. Earlier this season, the Scrappers offered a game ticket and unlimited food and drink for $17 at all Monday home games. Beginning tonight, the promotion has been replaced with $1 hot dogs throughout the game for all fans. Quipped Scrappers fan Dan Shapira, “I think I ate them out of the all-you-can-eat promotion.” Shapira said he planned on using “every bit of a $20 bill on the dollar hot dogs,” and noted that he also planned to take part in tonight’s other feature — Senior Citizen Bingo.
