Leetonia road program
LEETONIA — The village will do its 2008 chip-and-seal road program today through Wednesday, weather permitting.
Residents on these streets are asked to keep vehicles off the road during the program: Butcher Road from Washington Street to Main Street; Chestnut Street from High Street North to the village limits; Mill Street from Columbia Street to Somer Street; and all of Bears Den Road, Sleepy Hollow and Honey Lane.
Mathews school test
CORTLAND — The first portion of the early entrance test for children in the Mathews school district who will be 5 between Oct. 1 and Dec. 31 of this year will be given at 9 a.m. Tuesday at Currie Elementary School, 3306 Ridge Road.

Lawrence Co. GOP
NEW CASTLE, Pa. — Lawrence County Young Republicans will convene to elect officers and adopt bylaws to satisfy the final requirements to receive a charter.
An hour meeting is scheduled for 6 p.m. Tuesday at Steamer’s Coffee, 2710 Mercer Road, Schenley Square.
Interested registered Republicans, who are county residents between the ages of 18-40, are invited to attend and join this new venture. Membership applications are also available for download at www.vote4davec.com.
Academy information
YOUNGSTOWN — Stambaugh Charter Academy, 2420 Donald Ave., has scheduled a parent information meeting for 6 p.m. Wednesday at the school.
Teachers and staff members will answer questions about the school and tours are available.
Stambaugh Charter Academy opened its doors to pupils for the first time in 2006. The school serves children in kindergarten through the sixth grade, and will add one grade per year up through the eighth grade, eventually serving more than 700 pupils.

Health center ceremony
EAST PALESTINE — Covington Health Center will be having a public groundbreaking ceremony with refreshments at 10 a.m. Wednesday at 1700 Hunston Road.
It will be a state-of-the-art assisted living, skilled nursing and rehabilitation facility.
Owners Dr. Michael Slyk and Dr. Timothy Chesney also operate West Branch Nursing and Baltic Avenue Nursing.
They expect a summer 2009 completion date.
Naturalization event
YOUNGSTOWN — Judge Mark A. Belinky of Mahoning County Probate Court presided over a naturalization ceremony recently in which three people became U.S. citizens.
The new citizens, their country of origin, and their local hometowns are: Marie Freedman, Canada, Canfield; Muhannad Kassawat, Syria, Poland; and Asra Syeda Arif, Pakistan, Austintown.
Borrower Outreach Day
YOUNGSTOWN — The Ohio Department of Commerce has scheduled a second Borrower Outreach Day from 2 to 8 p.m. Aug. 12 at Kilcawley Center at Youngstown State University.
The event will feature class sessions and other information for borrowers facing possible foreclosure.
The first borrower outreach day, scheduled for March 7 in Youngstown, was snowed out.
