Event provides assistance for people worried about foreclosure on a home
The state-sponsored event will include workshops for attendees.
STAFF REPORT
YOUNGSTOWN — Ohio’s Borrower Outreach Day returns to the city Aug. 12 to assist Mahoning Valley residents concerned about foreclosure.
An earlier outreach day March 7 was canceled midway through the event due to a heavy snow storm that blanketed the Mahoning Valley.
Borrower Outreach Day will be from 2 to 8 p.m. at Youngstown State University’s Kilcawley Center.
The event is sponsored by Ohio Department of Commerce in partnership with Ohio Treasurer Richard Cordray and the Ohio Housing Finance Agency.
Several mortgage loan servicers will attend the event to meet one on one with borrowers who are having difficulty making their mortgage payments.
Local, state and federal housing experts and housing counselors also will be at the outreach to provide additional resources. Attendees will have the opportunity to participate in several brief workshops throughout the day.
Information on the Borrower Outreach Day is available at www.com.state.oh.us/bod.
This site will be updated as new information is available, including the names and contact information for the loan servicers that will be participating.
Borrower Outreach Days complement the state’s Save the Dream campaign, which is designed to help Ohioans take action to save the dream of homeownership.
The public awareness campaign includes a Web site at www.savethedream.ohio.gov and a toll-free telephone hot line (888) 404-4674.
The core message of the Save the Dream campaign is for homeowners to:
UContact their mortgage loan servicer at the first sign that they may have difficulty in making their mortgage payment.
UAt the same time, work with a U.S. Housing and Urban Development-approved housing counselor and/or a legal aid or pro bono attorney.
The Youngstown event will be the eighth Borrower Outreach Day sponsored by the state.
