Youngstown Babe Ruth opens with win
Dan Popio homered and tripled for Youngstown, while Cody Pitzo homered.
SHELBYVILLE, Ind. — The Youngstown Babe Ruth 14-yea-rold all-star team opened regional play with a 14-4 win over Wisconsin Friday.
Dan Popio led Youngstown with a home run and triple, while Cody Pitzo homered and singled. Mark Leone had two doubles and a single and Justin Fleo had two singles.
Ricky Jones , Tony Mehle and Dane Gecina each added one hit.
Fleo was the winning pitcher with relief help from Mehle.
Youngstown is scheduled to continue pool play Sunday.
Canfield 10s
ASHTABULA — Canfield was eliminated for the Little League 10-year-old state baseball tournament by Maumee, 11-9.
Drew Potesta hit two home runs for Canfield, while Vincent D’Alesio added a pair hits. Luke Kelty, Ryan Head, Vince Ferrier, Jeep DiCioccio and Cody Dye also had hits.

WARREN — Champion Marlins finished with the second seed for the upcoming playoffs with a 5-1 win over the Trumbull County Predators.
Lance Townsend had two hits, including a double, and two RBIs for Champion, while Jason Johnson singled twice. Joe Cvengros was the winning pitcher with relief help from Jake Gross and Nate King.
Jarrett Partridge homered and doubled to lead the Predators.
