Jammers stop Scrappers, 5-3


Mahoning Valley managed just five hits against the NYPL’s top team.

JAMESTOWN, N.Y. — The Mahoning Valley Scrappers managed just five hits in a 5-3 loss to the Jamestown Jammers in a New York-Penn League game on Friday.

One night after scoring nine runs on 13 hits, the Scrappers struggled offensively, scoring three runs in the second inning and nothing the rest of the way.

Donnie Webb provided the biggest boost to Mahoning Valley (20-24), going 2-for-4 with a triple, two RBIs and a run scored.

Dustin Realini, who spent the first half of the season with Lake County, had a hit and scored a run in his second game with the team.

Second baseman Isaias Velasquez had a single but committed his 12th error of the season.

Robert Alcombrack added a double.

Kaimi Mead (4-5) started and surrendered four runs (three earned) on six hits over four innings to pick up the loss.

Brian Grening gave up one run over three innings of relief, striking out five. Brad Hinkle pitched a perfect ninth.

For Jamestown (27-15), Tom Koehler (2-4) gave up three runs (two earned) over four innings to get the win.

Kevin Mattison doubled, singled and scored twice for the Jammers, while Paul Gran had two hits and scored a run and Ben Lasater had two hits and two RBIs.

The Jammers, who have the best record in the NYPL, lead the Pinckney Division by 11‚Ñ2 games over Batavia.

Mahoning Valley is in fifth place in the six-team division, 8 games out of first.

Batavia leads the wild card race.
