WEATHERSFIELD TOWNSHIP Agenda
At a special meeting Thursday, trustees handled these matters:
Voted to place on the Nov. 4 general election ballot two 3.7-mill continuous police levies. The replacement measures should bring in $523,588 annually that would go toward police services, as well as equipment for the Weathersfield Police Department. The levies carry the same millage as what’s being collected now, noted Fred R. Bobovnyk, trustee chairman.
Approved placing on the ballot a limited home rule measure. Townships with populations under 15,000 and annual budgets of more than $3 million can adopt such home rule, which gives officials more discretion to pass and added power to enforce resolutions regarding speed limits, zoning, property upkeep and civil fines, among other things, Bobovnyk noted. The township’s population is around 9,000, its budget about $4.6 million, he continued.
Gave a three-year contract, effective July 1, to four full-time road department employees. The workers will receive raises of 60 cents, 50 cents and 50 cents over three years and will pay the first $500 deductible for their health care coverage, as well as 10 percent of a spouse’s coverage under a family plan, Bobovnyk noted.
Agreed to buy pavement repair equipment for $58,491 to fill potholes and cracks on township roads. The machine will use a liquid and stone aggregate that is more effective and weather-resistant than traditional cold patch material, Bobovnyk said.
