Zunic, Dobos earn NCAC honors


HIRAM — Stephanie Zunic and Craig Dobos of Hiram College have been named players of the week for softball and baseball, respectively, by the North Coast Athletic Conference.

Zunic (Canfield) helped the Terriers (14-18, 8-6 NCAC) post a 4-2 record, winning their last four conference games with a pair of two-game sweeps against Oberlin and Kenyon to qualify for the final spot in the NCAC tournament which begins Friday. Zunic batted .458 (11-of-24) at the plate with a home run, a triple, four doubles, six runs scored and eight RBIs.

For the season, Zunic is third on the team in hitting with a .362 batting average (42-of-116) and leads the team in runs scored (27), doubles (15) and is tied for the team lead in home runs (four). She is second in RBIs (21).

Dobos (Howland) aided the Hiram baseball team (10-20, 5-11 NCAC) finish the week with a 3-4 record, including 2-2 in conference play that included a two-game split against No. 7 ranked Wooster. For the week, Dobos had a .423 batting average (10-of-23) with three home runs, three doubles and 10 RBIs.

After 30 games this season, Dobos is second on the team in hitting with a .367 average (36-of-98). He leads the team in RBIs (27) and is tied for the team lead in home runs (four). Dobos is third in doubles (7) and has stolen two bases.
