Padgitt’s home run lifts Boardman over GlenOak


Fitch’s Emily Purnell and Jackson-Milton’s Lyndsey Knipp registered pitching victories.

BOARDMAN — Lizzie Padgitt’s walk-off homer in the bottom of the seventh inning gave the Boardman High softball team a 5-4 victory Tuesday over Canton GlenOak.

Jamie Massaro’s two hits included a grand slam for the Spartans (10-5, 3-3 Federal League). Kelsey Ford (7-4) relieved starter Alexandra DiDomenico in the seventh inning to earn the pitching victory.

For GlenOak (5-10, 1-6), Ashley Henriques hit two doubles, Tera Blocher tripled and Brittani Newsome homered.

Fitch 5, Lake 1

AUSTINTOWN — Emily Purnell had eight strikeouts in her three-hitter.

Sam Kozbial had a home run and double and two RBIs while Kate Ferree had two singles and an RBI.

Also for Fitch (8-6, 3-3 FL), Carly Ortz had a double and RBI and Alyssa Jones singled.

Jackson-Milton 16, Southern 0

NORTH JACKSON — Lyndsey Knipp pitched a no-hitter with nine strikeouts.

Knipp also had two hits while Cat Keck ripped a grand slam. Keck finished with four hits, including a double, and five RBIs for the Bluejays (5-9).

Brittany McGee had three hits and two RBIs while Taylor Dugan had three RBIs and a double.

Canfield 6, Jefferson 0

JEFFERSON — Tricia Bettura (8-2) pitched four hitless innings and Lauren Sulick allowed one hit over the final three innings.

Melissa West had three hits including two triples and three RBIs. Melanie West had three doubles and an RBI.

Bryanne Halfhill doubled for the Cardinals (13-3).

Jefferson is 11-3.

Howland 5, Lakeview 4

CORTLAND — Abby Nicholas struck out nine in a five-hitter. She also had a double and two RBIs, Rachel Bixler had a double, single and RBI while Jenna Debiec doubled for Howland (10-10).

Jessica Downs doubled for Lakeview (11-4).

Niles 10, Campbell 0

CAMPBELL — Winning pitcher Aubrey Hale scattered six hits and contributed three hits including a double for the Red Dragons (7-9, 4-4 Metro Athletic Conference). Hale also scored three runs.

Larissa Cantola, Megan McDermott and Brooke Joseph also doubled.

For the Red Devils (3-11, 1-6), Erica Melnik and Latonya Butler each had two hits and Kaylynn Flowers doubled.

Columbiana 4, South Range 3

NORTH LIMA — The Clippers (11-7, 4-5 Inter Tri-County League Tier One) rallied for four runs in the seventh inning. Alexis Wyatt’s RBI double was one of the Clippers’ four hits in that frame.

For the Raiders (8-7, 4-5), Caitlin Carter and Laura Biroschak each had two hits and one RBI. Morgan Yanek (4-4) struck out eight batters and walked one.

Springfield 10, Crestview 0

NEW MIDDLETOWN — Erica Burkey threw five strikeouts and allowed one walk in a one-hitter for Springfield (8-7, 5-2 ITCL).

Burkey, a junior, also had three doubles and two RBIs.

Sophomore Andria Lyons had four singles and two RBIs. Junior Rebecca Evan had a double, single and two RBIs while Breanne Mincher had a triple, two singles and an RBI.

Emily Dickinson had the hit for Crestview.

Hubbard 2, Liberty 0

HUBBARD — Kara Egelsky (8-1) pitched a five-hitter with nine strikeouts for Hubbard.

She was backed by Gabby Flynn’s solo homer and Heather Shadden’s doubled that scored Kerri Durina, who reached first base on a fielder’s choice.

Meagan Schultz provided a double and single for the Eagles (12-5, 9-1 Trumbull Athletic Conference).

Ursuline 5, Beaver Local 0

YOUNGSTOWN — Casey Lower pitched a two hitter with 10 strikeouts for Ursuline (14-4) at Volney Rogers. Lower is 12-4.

Kasey Foley contributed a double, three singles and two RBIs to pace the Irish attack, while Jessica Yarab had two singles.

Massillon Jackson 3, Warren JFK 1

MASSILLON — Shelbi Howington pitched a two-hitter for Massillon Jackson. She had six strikeouts and gave up two walks in taming JFK (12-2) on Monday.

Haley Dunn had two singles and one RBI for Jackson.

Southeast 3, Field 1

RAVENNA — Shannon Hamilton of the Pirates (10-0) threw a one-hitter to best Field’s Tabitha Murray, who scattered five hits, in a pitchers’ duel in a Portage Trail Conference game.

Alyssa Biltz and Ali Austin each doubled for Southeast (14-2, 6-1).

Arielle Kenyon singled for Field (16-3, 6-1).
