Columbiana Co.’s Dawson receives Urban County Engineer award

LISBON — The National Association of County Engineers recently named Columbiana County Engineer Bert Dawson as the Urban County Engineer of the year for 2007.
All the states in the U.S. have the opportunity to nominate someone for the national competition.
Dawson, a professional surveyor and professional engineer, was nominated for the award by the Ohio County Engineers Association of Ohio. The award was presented recently at the annual national association’s convention in Portland, Ore.
Some of the criteria considered for the award includes education, projects completed and public service. Dawson has served on several public and professional boards.
Dawson was elected county engineer in 1969, making him the youngest county engineer ever elected in Ohio. He is completing his 10th consecutive term, which makes him the longest-serving county engineer in Ohio. Dawson, a Republican, is running for another term.
Dawson gave credit for his success to the employees of his office, both past and present, stating, “If you surround yourself with good people, they will make you look good.”
Engineer Dawson is married to St. Clair Township fiscal officer Deborah Dawson. He has two sons and three grandchildren, all residing in the Calcutta, Columbiana County, area.
