Boylan repeats

GREENVILLE, Pa. — Thiel College outfielder Eric Boylan was named the Presidents’ Athletic Conf. hitter of the week for the second straight week.

Boylan hit .567 (17-for-30) in six games, including eight doubles, four homers and 19 RBIs. Boylan is hitting .439 on the season.

Pavlik tickets

HOWLAND — Joshua Kostraba, a senior at Howland High School, will attend Mount Union College where he will play football.

Kostraba earned three varsity letters as a defensive back at Howland and also lettered three times as a catcher on the baseball team.

MacDuffie OAC pick

ALLIANCE — Mount Union College men’s golf coach Dan MacDuffie was named the Ohio Athletic Conf. coach of the year.

MacDuffie guided the Raiders to their second consecutive OAC championship and his teams have never finished lower than third at the conference championships.

Marlowe is medalist

BROOKFIELD — Team Youngstown moved into first place in the Penn-Ohio Golf League standings after posting 201‚Ñ2 points Sunday at Yankee Run Golf Course.

Youngstown holds a slim half-point lead over Canfield 471‚Ñ2-47, while Grove City moved up to third at 271‚Ñ2 and Boardman is fourth with 20.

Canfield’s Dick Marlowe took medalist honors with a 3-over par 73, while there with only three other scores in the 70’s shot Sunday.

Youngstown Dan Goodman and Grove City’s Derek Forese each had 77 and Grove City’s Mike Whalen added a 79.

Marlowe and Mark Beck combined to win the best-ball event.

Penn St. picks football captains

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. — Five Penn State football players were named captains on Tuesday and five suspended Nittany Lions learned that they will be allowed to work out with their teammates again.

Center A.Q. Shipley and receiver Derrick Williams were elected offensive captains, and lineman Josh Gaines and safety Anthony Scirrotto were chosen as defensive captains. Linebacker Sean Lee, out for the season with a right knee injury, was named an honorary captain.

“I’ve always dreamed of being a captain at Penn State,” Lee, who is expected to play again in 2009, said in a statement Tuesday.

All five captains enter the 2008 campaign as at least two-year starters.

NEW YORK — Fans will pay starry prices for this year’s All-Star baseball game at Yankee Stadium.

Tickets will be priced at $150-$725 for the July 15 game, Major League Baseball announced Tuesday.
