Thunder to salute military

BOARDMAN — The Mahoning Valley Thunder’s May 5 home game will give fans a chance to salute the military and Defend Youngstown, as part of the first Monday night game in Thunder history.

Kickoff is set for 6:30 p.m., against division rival Wilkes-Barre/Scranton at Cortland Banks Field inside the Chevrolet Centre.

To salute the military, the Thunder will give one free ticket to any person who presents a valid military ID at either the Chevrolet Centre box office or the Thunder office in Boardman.

Representing both the military and the city of Youngstown is former Air Force lieutenant, and Ohio state Sen. John Boccieri.

“I think it’s great that the management of the Mahoning Valley Thunder has taken this opportunity to recognize the bravest citizens in the Mahoning Valley,” said Sen. Boccieri. “Each day these men and women serve and support America in our honor. This is one of many ways we, as a valley, can say thank you.”

Fans can also join the ongoing efforts of Valley native Phil Kidd in his fight to “Defend Youngstown”. Kidd established the Defend Youngstown movement. Fans attending the game in a Defend Youngstown T-shirt will receive $5 off their Thunder ticket. Also receiving $5 off their Thunder ticket will be any civil service, city or county employees.

Fans can present a valid work ID or badge to receive the discount.

Individual tickets are on sale starting at $12. Group outings and birthday parties also available. For more information call the Thunder at (330) 758-4232.
