YSU’s Rogner medalist at Horizon golf meet
CARMEL, Ind. — Youngstown State freshman Katie Rogner shot an even-par 72 to overtake Butler’s Lauren Showers and earn medalist honors at the Horizon League golf championships, which concluded Sunday at Plum Creek Golf Club.
Rogner finished with a three-round score of 230 to finish two strokes ahead of Showers. Rogner shot 78 and 80 on Saturday.
In the team race, the Penguins came in second place at 916, seven shots behind the Bulldogs. Detroit (987) finished third, Cleveland State was fourth, Loyola fifth and Green Bay sixth.
Junior Mollie Boney and senior Adrianna DiLonardo of YSU tied for ninth with 54-hole totals of 245. Senior Felicia Ciotola finished 12th with a 247 and senior Brittany Jones tied for 14th with a 249.
Rogner is the first YSU golfer to win the Horizon League championship since Lori Hatcher in 2003.
