Wheldon wins again; Patrick can’t contend

KANSAS CITY, Kan. — There was no magic for Danica Patrick this time, with Dan Wheldon holding off Tony Kanaan on Sunday to win his second straight IRL IndyCar Series race at Kansas Speedway.

Patrick, who last week became the first woman to win an IndyCar race, never got into contention in the RoadRunner Turbo Indy 300 and wound up on the sideline with a broken wheel hub.

•EDS Byron Nelson

IRVING, Texas — Adam Scott made a 9-foot birdie putt on No. 18 to force a playoff, then made a 48-footer playing it again on the third playoff hole to beat Ryan Moore on Sunday.

Playing the 18th hole for the third time in less than an hour, the second time in the playoff, Scott hit his tee shot into a fairway bunker to the right. He got his approach to the front of the green, then rolled the putt over two ridges and into the cup. Moore had a chance to match Scott, but his pin-high putt skimmed just past the cup.

•Stanford International

AVENTURA, Fla. — Annika Sorenstam won the Stanford International Pro-Am for her 71st LPGA Tour victory, beating Paula Creamer with a par on the first playoff hole.

Both laid up at the par-5 18th in the playoff, with Creamer facing a tricky downhill birdie putt from just off the fringe, and Sorenstam leaving herself a birdie try from almost the same spot where she missed in regulation.

•Liberty Mutual Legends

SAVANNAH, Ga. — Tom Watson and Andy North won the Liberty Mutual Legends of Golf, beating Craig Stadler and Jeff Sluman by a stroke.

Watson, the Outback Steakhouse Pro-Am winner last week in Florida, and North teamed for a better-ball 64 at The Club at Savannah Harbor for a 31-under 185 total. Stadler and Sluman shot a 61 on the island course in the middle of the Savannah River.
