Ursuline softball captures 2-1 victory


YOUNGSTOWN — In a rare Sunday high school softball game player at Volney Rogers in Mill Creek Park, Youngstown Ursuline scored twice in the first inning to beat Cincinnati Ursuline, 2-1.

Nikka Bonamase led off the game for the Irish (13-4) with one of her three singles and was sacrificed to second.

Kasey Foley reached on an error that plated Bonamase and Miranda Carkido tripled home Foley for a 2-0 lead.

Brianna Eve (7-8) homered for the Lions (9-9) in the bottom of the first inning.

Irish pitcher Casey Lower (11-4) threw a two-hitter with 13 strikeouts and just one walk.
