Those who know him see another side of Marc Dann

EDITOR:

It is time for someone to come out and try to tell the good side of Marc Dann. I am not related to Marc in any way. He does not owe me anything, nor do I owe him anything, but I think I am a pretty good judge of character, until I am proven wrong.

I am not a person to judge a person too fast. I can see good in people and Marc is, in my opinion, a good person. Why do I say that? I have been with Marc on one occasion and what I saw then is what makes a good person. I know he enjoys his family, especially his children. Marc and his wife are hard working people. There isn’t anything that Marc wouldn’t do for those kids.

I went with him on one occasion, on a sort of meet-the-candidate type thing (he needed a driver and I was happy he asked). And then we had to go to another event, later, but before we left, he said to me, I have to go and pick up my mother-in-law and kids. To me that says a lot about a man. He knew his family would enjoy going where he was going, even though it was political in nature. That makes for one decent person. He always considers his family first. (More people should be like Marc.)

Yes, Marc probably made some judgmental mistakes that he would like to take back, but is there one of us that has not done the same thing?

He has worked hard for all of us and I believe he will continue to do so. It is not easy putting together a sound staff in a short time frame. You do the best that you think can be done and so be it.

You know if you have just (one) true friend in a lifetime (and that would be his wife) you are really a lucky person. Most of the people you know and consider friends are just acquaintances, not true friends. We all have many of those. Give this gentleman your support and send him your letters of support. I believe this would really help him.

People who mistreat dogs should face consequences

EDITOR:

In recent months I have been disgusted and saddened by the many stories in the news about how many dogs are being abused and neglected in the Youngstown area. I wish that people who feel it is OK to not feed their dogs or to leave them outside in the cold would just realize that they are not interested in really having a pet. I feel that anyone who thinks it is okay to leave a dog tied outside without food, water and shelter should be charged with animal cruelty.

What disgusts me even more was the story about how the police thought it was acceptable to ram their cars into “malnourished, vicious” dogs that were causing a problem on Mahoning Avenue one night. If the dog warden is not available, can’t the police be trained to use tranquilizers to subdue vicious dogs instead of shooting them or ramming them with their cars?

I feel that the dog warden’s office should have staff available on a 24-hour on-call basis as well. It seems as if dog wardens are never available when you need them. This should not be a 9 to 5 job. I am hoping that they can work with the police to train them to subdue vicious or stray dogs in a humane manner instead of running them over with their cars.

These poor animals do not ask to be abused, starved and neglected. They all start out as sweet, innocent puppies and only become vicious because of the treatment they receive from their ignorant owners. My hope is that inhumane people who neglect dogs will stop the abuse or be punished for their actions.
