Mercer Co. Salary Board creates three positions
Bill Boyle will retire in July.
MERCER, Pa. — The Mercer County Salary Board has created three new positions.
The salary board — which consists of all three county commissioners and county Controller Thomas Amundsen — created a human resources director position with a pay range of $44,000 to $62,581; an electronic maintenance technician for the jail who will be paid $23,589 to $33,740; and a records administrator for the county jail with a salary range between $26,409 and $37,126.
Bill Boyle, county director of administrative services, said the human resources director is one of two positions that will replace him when he retires in July. Boyle is in charge of personnel as well as purchasing and other county administrative services.
Commissioners have agreed to split his position into two full-time jobs when he retires.
The growing number of electronic functions at the county jail have made it necessary to hire a full-time electronic maintenance technician, Boyle said.
He explained that cells, doors, security systems and computers at the jail all have electronic components, creating additional work for the computer office at the courthouse and necessitating having a full-time person on site at the jail.
The technician, however, also would be available if needed elsewhere in the county system.
Patricia Woods, who is now the jail’s records coordinator, will be moved into the records administrator position, and the coordinator post will be eliminated.
Boyle said the job was upgraded because there is more work involved since the new jail opened. Her wage remains the same.
The county will advertise for applicants for the human resources director and the electronic maintenance technician.
Also, in the commissioners’ part of the meeting, the commissioners:
UAgreed to approve an agreement for school tax bill and tax duplicate printing services with Infocon Corp., Ebensburg, Pa., at a rate of 14 cents per bill. The county has an ongoing contract with the company.
UNamed Leslie Wingard of Hermitage to a three-year term on the Mercer County Commission for Women.
URehired Holly Everson of Mercer to work part time in the West Nile Virus Grant Program under supervision of the county Soil Conservation District. She will be paid $8.30 hourly for up to 940 hours. Iverson had worked in last year’s program.
