Medical Society and Alliance honor Sankovic as Gem of Year
YOUNGSTOWN — The Mahoning County Medical Society and Alliance had a joint dinner meeting April 11 at Fellows Riverside Gardens. The Alliance presented its Gem of the Year award to Carol Sankovic, a 13-year Medical Society member.
The award was created to honor an active member of the medical alliance who is dedicated to the community.
Sankovic served as president of the Alliance in 2005, dedicating fundraising efforts to the Beatitude House. She also served as the president of the Columbiana/Salem Medical Society Alliance. She has served as chair of two committees at the Ohio State Medical Alliance level: communications and doctor’s day committees.
Locally, Sankovic served as the chairwoman for corporate sponsorship for the Canfield Gridiron Club, as committee chair for St. Michael Church Corporate sponsor committee of the family Life Center, and as president of the Canfield Parent Teacher Organization. She also is a sustaining member of the junior League of Youngstown, is an active member of the Youngstown Symphony Guild and is a longtime member of TWIGS in both Mahoning and Columbiana Counties.
Sankovic received bachelor of science and master of education degrees from Youngstown State University. She taught school for 15 years in the Youngstown City Schools, at Ursuline High School and at Akron City Schools. She now works in her husand’s office.
She is married to Danny Sankovic, M.D., a general surgeon. The Sankovics have two boys, Patrick, a senior at Canfield High School, and Ryan, a sophomore at Canfield.
The Mahoning County Medical Society Alliance is a nonprofit organization dedicated to the protection of public health, promoting health education and supporting the Medical Society.
