Veterinary medicine degree
Charlene D. Arendas of Lowellville will receive her doctor of veterinary medicine June 8 from Ohio State University’s College of Veterinary Medicine.
Dr. Arendas graduated in 2000 from Lowellville High School, where she was salutatorian. She graduated summa cum laude with a degree in biology from Youngstown State University in 2004. While at YSU, she was in the Leslie Cochran University Scholars program, was a member of YSU Student Government and Academic Senate, Golden Key Honor Society, Clarence P. Gould Society, Phi Kappa Phi and Youngstown Environmental Studies Society.
Dr. Arendas is active in 4-H and was a member of the Canfield Fair Junior Fair Board and the 4-H Royal Court. She has been a Mahoning County 4-H adviser for the Llucky Llamas 4-H Club since 2003. Her family raises llamas at Spacey Acres Llama Ranch in Lowellville.
In January, Dr. Arendas went on a weeklong visit to a llama and alpaca research facility in Peru with other U.S. veterinarians. She said her plans over the next few years is to continue to travel to that South American country to help work on a vaccination project for newborn alpaca and llamas.
Dr. Arendas is the daughter of Charles and Deborah Arendas of Lowellville. Her grandmothers are Mildred Arendas of Lowellville and Annamae Laczo of Hubbard.
