YOUNGSTOWN — Those who own or operate businesses on and near South Avenue can discuss concerns about crime and other issues with city officials and representatives from the Mahoning County Juvenile Justice Center from 10 a.m. to noon Wednesday at the former Krakusy Hall building on the corner of South and Cameron avenues.

Council members Janet Tarpley, D-6th, and John R. Swierz, D-7th, are sponsoring the meeting.

Learn of clean energy

CHAMPION – Alan Frasz, vice president of Dovetail Solar and Wind, will speak during a meeting of the Clean Energy Network in Trumbull County from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday in Room 117 of the technology building at Kent State University Trumbull campus.

Frasz will provide an overview of solar technology and system components and discuss the cost of residential and commercial installations. Clean Energy Network seeks to increase awareness in renewable energy technology.

Topic: compassion dogs

FOWLER — The Fowler Township Historical Society will meet at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the Fowler Community Center on state Route 193. The free program will be about compassion dogs working in nursing homes and hospitals. For more information, call Eileen Cover at (330) 637-2006.

Foster care, adoption

HOWLAND — Trumbull County Children Services will sponsor a countywide foster and adoption open house, noon to 3 p.m. May 10 at the Butler Institute of American Art, 9350 E. Market St., Howland.

Attendees will view art created by foster and adoptive children from Trumbull County.

Fishing — for children

STRUTHERS — Mill Creek MetroParks is hosting Hooked on Fishing: An Angler’s Escape, a program aimed at children.

From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 17 at Yellow Creek Park in Struthers, MetroPark officers will be on site to help area children of all ages learn how to catch their own fish.

The officers also will present games, prizes and other giveaways during the event, which will go on even if rain is in the forecast. For more information contact Mill Creek MetroParks recreation department at (330) 740-7160.

Senior citizen luncheon

McDONALD — There will be a Senior Citizen luncheon for McDonald residents at the McDonald High School Commons at 12:30 p.m. May 7. The cost is $2.50, and the menu is chicken divan over noodles, rolls and butter, fruit, dessert and coffee or tea. Entertainment will be Roosevelt (Elementary) Spring Sing Selections.
