YSU women’s golf team will vie in Horizon League tournament


CARMEL, Ind. — The Youngstown State women’s golf team is competing in the Horizon League championships at Plum Creek Golf Club today and Sunday.

Two 18-hole rounds will be contested today and the final round is Sunday.

The Penguins hope to take the momentum from their victory at the Loyola Invitational April 14-15 into the Horizon championship.

YSU’s lineup is freshman Katie Rogner, junior Mollie Boney, and seniors Brittany Jones, Adrianna DiLonardo, and Felicia Ciotola.

Rogner, a two-time Horizon League golfer of the week, was medalist at Loyola. She has been the team’s top placer in every meet this season.

Jones will be making her fourth appearance at the Horizon championship. She has finished in the top 10 every year, including a fourth-place finish last year. She was fifth as a sophomore and 10th as a freshman.

Ciotola will also making a fourth trip back to the championship; she finished 13th last year. Her career-best finish at the meet was seventh as a freshman. She was also 13th as a sophomore.

DiLonardo tied for 15th at the event last year and was sixth in her first trip in 2006.

Boney was seventh at the UD Titan Invitational.

YSU won the Horizon championship in 2003, finished second in 2005 and ’06, and third in 2004 and ’07.

Butler has won the last three championships.
