Farmers National earnd $1.72M

CANFIELD — Farmers National Banc Corp. earned $1.72 million in the first quarter, down $85,000 from the same quarter last year. It is the holding company for Farmers National Bank.

The company’s nonperforming loans, those that are at least 90 days past due, are down slightly. They totaled $2.35 million on March 31, compared with $2.46 million a year earlier.

Austintown Wal-Mart plans grand opening

AUSTINTOWN — The Austintown Wal-Mart Supercenter will hold a grand-opening ceremony at 7:30 a.m. Wednesday. The store recently completed renovations that allowed the addition of a full line of groceries. Included are a bakery, delicatessen, a frozen food section, meat department, dairy and a selection of organic foods.

The store plans to employ about 430, including nearly 200 new jobs.

The store added 61,000 additional square feet and took steps to reduce energy and water consumption and to minimize waste. For example, water flow is regulated in the store’s bathrooms through the use of sensor-activated faucets. Turbines in the faucets generate the electricity that powers those sensors.
