Grandmother charged with OVI at school

STAFF REPORT

AUSTINTOWN — Suzanne Rudnytsky, 56, of New Road, was charged with misdemeanors of child endangering and operating a motor vehicle while impaired after she backed her minivan into a school bus in the Watson Elementary parking lot Wednesday afternoon, police said.

No one was injured, and no pupils were in the school bus at the time, said Kathy Dina, a detective with the Austintown Police Department. She said the bus was not moving.

But Rudnytsky was charged with child endangering because she had four of her grandchildren in the van with her at the time, police said. They ranged from age 1 to 8.

The children were turned over to their mother at the scene, and Rudnytsky was tested for alcohol at the police station, registering a blood-alcohol level of 0.209, more than twice the legal limit of 0.08. Rudnytsky had gone to the school to pick up one sick child and was baby-sitting the others, Dina said.
