Highlights of Wednesday night’s Boardman Township trustees meeting:

Officials reject the Joint Economic Development District proposal from Youngstown as written. The proposal called for an income tax on some township businesses and residents that would be shared by the township and city, in exchange for lower water rates for city water customers who live in the township.

Trustees said the idea of economic development initiatives with other surrounding communities should be explored.

Trustees said they believe that incorporation, or becoming a city, must be considered, but more information is needed about the costs involved.

The township will ask the Mahoning County prosecutor’s office to determine what is involved with the formation of a township water district and if Boardman could do it as a way to provide water to residents without Youngstown involvement.

One of the options presented to shore up township finances was another levy attempt either in an August special election or in the November general election.
